In December at the Foundation

The foundation presents “Habiter l’intime”, an exhibition gathering 120 works on paper from Brussels private collections with the kind participation of collectors Isabelle Bourne, Yolande De Bontridder, Frederic Goldschmidt, Cédric Lienart de Jeude, Nathalie Guiot, founder of the venue and the complicit look of Anne Pontegnie.

More than 80 artists, including Francis Alÿs, Joël Andrianomearisoa, Louise Bourgeois, Ulla von Brandenburg, Isabelle Cornaro, Wim Delvoye, Mark Dion, Lionel Estève, Paul-Armand Gette, Camille Henrot, Fabrice Hybert, Pierre Le-Tan, Karine Rougier, George Segal, Jim Shaw, Franz West etc.

Brussels collectors agreed to release their works on paper, each made a list, rediscovered hidden treasures he thought he had forgotten, and in an almost adolescent excitement, they found each other, confronted each other with their eyes. created associations, bridges … to make this exhibition a cabinet of ephemeral graphic curiosities, a sulphurous strand A hundred works of artists from various horizons, hung on the walls all-over, federated by the medium of paper and its fragility.

Operate an encounter, that of works that question our identities, our desires, our solitude. To descend into the depths of our soul, our bodies and its visceral network that we pretend to ignore. Traveling in erotic and secret waddled dreams, intoxicating with the frenetic and smoky features of ink and charcoal, or like a voyeur, watching the sexual activities of a clandestine couple, or taking in p Leine figure, exhibitionism assumed a portrait … A pictorial journey that deploys the exuberance of our beings, our multiple identities. Living is diluted in “habit you are” … Let us free our social tinsel, let down the masks, wander … Living the intimate is also a maze, a labyrinth for curious minds; in the intimacy of this house with domestic spaces, there are preparatory drawings that shape a collective utopia, other papers as joyful attempts at mineral or chromatic abstraction, from the lyricism of the artist. The body as habitat , idealized, exhibited, mutilated by some demiurgic forces. A psychedelic graphic cabinet that coats and provokes the spectator, discovering, hopefully, in the infinity of these propositions, his inner house, a part of his soul, his yin and his yang … just switch on the switch. The benevolent humility of a Francis Alÿs, the exposed body of a Paul-Armand Gette, the poetry of the gesture of Helena Almeida, the belching of Arnulf Rainer, etc. an infinite maelstrom, comic, an invitation to leave the frontiers of good taste.

From where do we perceive the world? How does this define the morphology of our imagination? Supporter of gliding of points of view, reptilian deterritorializations or reversals of scale, Ariane Michel works since several years to produce different perceptive: by giving this chance to the audience to become a little different (stone, bird, plant, insect or wave), jumping through million years or immersing them in one second, she touches the line which constitute our way of being in the world.

For her intervention at the Fondation Thalie, she will present her works in a way to put them in distance from her. Inviting us into a kind of mental workshop conducive to shimmers, she will try, from extracts, to put herself and us in the disposition of a floating dream to feel better what emanates from its productions. Fascinated by the ontological turning point at work in our Western societies, she will wonder about the place from which she works, about the signs and devices she has handled so far in order to assess the position of what it has produced: whether as symptoms of a changing society or as a machine involved in the reversals of the imaginary, something is happening there that certainly has to do with a revolution of thought.

Born in Paris in 1973 and graduated from the École nationale supérieure des arts décoratifs, Ariane Michel is a French artist and filmmaker. Whether through installations, performances or more cinematic devices, the work of Ariane Michel, using video more often, is focused on the recurrent creation of sensory experiences.Her work travels in the field of art as well as in the field of cinema, the Museum of Modern Art of the city of Paris at FIDMarseille, MoMA (New York) at the Locarno Festival. She is represented by the Jousse company gallery in Paris.

The Horta Museum invites the french visual and performance artist Marie-Ange Guilleminot in this masterpiece of Art Nouveau. It is a logical dialogue between the architect, famous for his savoir-faire and refinement, and the special world of Marie-Ange Guilleminot, know for her alphabet of forms and sculptures that can be « activated ». Both artists’ savoir-faire expresses a unique personal vision. Marie-Ange Guilleminot, who previously had exhibitions in the house of Pierre Loti, Villa Savoye and Villa Noailles in France, loves to dive into places that have an interesting history, while maintaining her dna as a visual artist. In the Horta Museum, she plays with the curves of the building, its transparencies and light, as if the works have always been there. At the same time, they invite the visitor to a new experience. There is a natural dialogue between both artists and their influences from William Morris over Japan, a passion they both share. The trajectory illustrates a passion for materials: silk, cotton, wool… Take the work « Le livre de Seuil » that welcomes the visitor at the entrance: it has poetic proportions that bring the daily life in the house back to life in a game of correspondences with materials: exotic wood, stone, bronze… The scenography of the exhibition takes in the entire house. There are plates in « service Alvéloe » in the living room, a play with light and matter in « Iko » and « Kimono mémoire de Hiroshima » next to the bath, the « Garde-robe made in France » in the room of the master of the house…in Horta’s office, you can seen « paravent » and « salon de transformation » with its special shape on a big table, with next to it « chapeau-vie », a textile work and iconic piece by the artist. Marie-Ange Guilleminot loves dialogues and she does so with repsect for this architectural gem.
Nathalie Guiot

Graduated from the Villa Arson in 1985, Marie-Ange Guilleminot lives and works in Paris. In 1997, she received the honorable mention at the Venice Biennale with the Salon de transformation. She is very present on the international art scene (first major acquisition in the United States for the collections of the Philadelphia Museum of Art in 1996) then Hiroshima City Museum of Contemporary Art, 2005 / Kyoto Art Center, 2006 / Center Pompidou Paris, 2010 / Villa Savoye, Le Corbusier, Poissy, 2012 / “The ghosts of our past actions. Man Ray, Sonia Delaunay, Marie-Ange Guilleminot”, Villa Noailles, Mallet-Stevens, Hyères, 2014 / Touchez-voir, ordering an installation, made for the Palais Galliera, 2013-2016 / The exhibition Laps, at the Cité of the Ceramics of Sèvres, presents in 2015 a retrospective of his work, then “Destine-moi une maison” unfolds at the Art Center La Chapelle Jeanne d’Arc, Thouars, 2015 as a synthesis or artistic program of La Maison de Vie whose primer is developed today at the Maison Horta.
